Note: this chapter and other parts of Revelation, show us a picture of a worship service. This chapter 19 worship service is similar to chapter 4 in this manner, but for one key difference: in chapter 19, (after spiritual Babylon was exposed and destroyed in chapters 17 and 18), there is a marriage ceremony as part of the worship service.
And so Revelation chapter 19 states “after these things…” meaning: after Babylon was removed – which is the spiritual unfaithful whore condition that lives within the hearts of people.
“And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:” ~ Revelation 19:1
The “heaven” he is speaking of is the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, when God’s true people gather to worship in Spirit and in truth. There is no corruption of unfaithful hypocrites among them.
- “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:” ~ Ephesians 1:3
- “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.” ~ Ephesians 2:4-7
And so, now that Babylon’s unfaithful hypocrisy has been removed from spiritual heavenly places, (from among true Christians) the clarity of true righteous judgement can go forth.
“For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. And again they said, Alleluia And her smoke rose up for ever and ever.” ~ Revelation 19:2-3
As shown in previous posts from Revelation 18, hypocrisy will always persecute true Christians. That is why it states in the scripture above that God “hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.”
“And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.” ~ Revelation 19:4
The four and twenty (24) elders represent the elder-ship of all God’s people throughout history: both the twelve sons of Israel (representing the twelve tribes of Israel) and the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ (representing all New Testament Christians). Additionally, the four beasts (or more accurate translation “four living creatures”) represent all of God’s true ministry. And so immediate following their leading in worship, there is the call to all the saved to also worship God.
“And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.” ~ Revelation 19:5-6
The great multitude is all the saved, and they are represented in other places in scripture and Revelation as the gathering of the clouds creating thunder and lightning. They are thrilled in worship of God, because the true Bride of Christ (the true church) has been both identified and prepared for her marriage to Jesus Christ. She (representing all true Christians) is both washed in the blood of the Lamb and is obedient to his Word.
“Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.” ~ Revelation 19:7-8
And so, as the invite went out at the beginning of Revelation in chapter 3, so here in Revelation 19:9 it states blessed is everyone who responded to the supper of the Lamb.
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” ~ Revelation 3:20
“And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.” ~ Revelation 19:9
Have you responded to the invite to the spiritual marriage supper of the Lamb? Many are called, but few are chosen.
“Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen.” ~ Matthew 22:9-14
Note: this diagram below shows where the nineteenth chapter is within the full Revelation message. The judgment messages of chapter 19 are also part of completing the purpose of God to destroy the influence of hypocrisy.
