“And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.” ~ Revelation 14:1
In sharp contrast to Revelation chapter 13 concerning the beasts and those marked by the beast: these in chapter 14 are not marked by the beast. But they are sealed with the Lamb’s (Jesus Christ) Father’s name in their foreheads.
These 144,000 have actually already been sealed, and identified to us back in chapter 7 of Revelation.
“And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.” ~ Revelation 7:2-4
Who are the 144,000 that were sealed with their Father’s name?
These 144,000 were part of those that were saved and cleaned, and were in the presence of God and the lamb in Revelation 7
“And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.” ~ Revelation 7:13-17
This mighty cloud of witnesses for Jesus Christ do not worship the beast form of “Christianity”, but instead they worship God in Spirit and in truth.
“And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts (these beasts better interpreted “living creatures”) and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.” ~ Revelation 14:2-3
What is the song that only the 144,000 knew?
This is a heavenly chorus of the saved children of God. Those who have been redeemed by the blood of the lamb. So there is the distinction made that you can’t know the song of “Deliverance from Sin” unless you yourself have been redeemed from your sins. It is a spiritual song discerned by those who have received God’s Holy Spirit and are living holy.
This truth about the character of the true saved people of God is clearly emphasized, so no one should need be confused regarding God’s expectation for his people! They need to be free and clear from the spiritual harlotry spirit (identified as “Babylon”). The same spirit that allows people to flirt with Satan and his temptations, and yet still call themselves a Christian. Those that are sealed need to be true spiritual virgins.
“These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.” ~ Revelation 14:4-5
Next it is shown that today God has called a ministry to preach truth against false Christianity (against the spiritual harlotry leadership, or “Babylon”).
“And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.” ~ Revelation 14:6-7
This also reflects the calling of a true ministry to fulfill this prophetic judgement preaching against falseness. A calling that is clearly identified back in Revelation chapter 10.
“And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth. And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter. And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.” ~ Revelation 10:8-11
And so, in Revelation 14 it is clearly showing us that the time has come to expose spiritual Babylon, and to judge her condition.
“And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.” ~ Revelation 14:8
This Babylon spirit has affected everyone in the earth! And it is clear that this spirit works hand in hand with the carnal beast spirits. But as the spirit of Babylon has made all who are marked by the beast, to drink of the wine of her hypocrisy; so God now will make the same that are marked, to drink the wrath of his judgement against this mark of the beast.
“And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.” ~ Revelation 14:9-11
The warning is clear, you will never find rest and peace if you continue to fight for your own selfish carnality. And it makes it worse if you are living carnal while claiming to be a Christian! Even as God sends a true ministry to expose this mark on you, you will also be tormented by this same Revelation! You must repent and forsake false Christianity to free yourself from this torment.
“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” ~ Revelation 14:12
Why mention “here is the patience” of those who are saved? Because when those who are marked by the beast get exposed, they get very angry, and often they take out their anger upon those who are saved. And many times this anger turns into persecuting and killing the saints.
But the Lord tells us those who are killed for the truth, are blessed greatly by the Lord!
“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.” ~ Revelation 14:13
Now these that “die in the Lord” can also be looked at spiritually. In other words, they have died to themselves: they are no longer living for themselves. This also identifies those who have died out to sin to enter into the Lord’s rest: the consecrated sanctified life in Christ Jesus. They rest from doing their own works. The works of God do follow them even while they are physically living on the Earth.
“Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. For if Jesus (actually meaning Joshua of the Old Testament) had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.” ~ Hebrews 4:1-11
This is a rest from doing any sin (being dead to sin) so that we may do the works of true righteousness, which is holiness.
“Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.” ~ Romans 6:11-13
And next in Revelation 14 we see the result of true holiness working in the worshipers: a harvest of new souls being saved.
“And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped.” ~ Revelation 14:14-16
Will everyone be gathered by the two harvests of Revelation 14?
There are two final harvests of people being gathered in these last days:
- One of the truly saved to receive blessings from God
- The other of the hypocrites and rebellious, to receive the wrath of God
John the baptist warned us in his day that the gathering apart of the good from the bad would happen under the direction of the Holy Spirit.
“I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” ~ Matthew 3:11-12
Jesus told us it would be so in the end. False Christians he called “tares” would be sown among the true. And a day would come when they would be gathered out.
“Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.” ~ Matthew 13:24-30
Jesus later explained this parable plainly:
“He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.” ~ Matthew 13:37-43
So what kind of ears do we have? Are we being gathered into one body with those who desire true sin-free holiness? Or are we being gathered into the beast like religions of men that keep you in the bondage of sin, and mark you with a false doctrine and a false hope?
In a subsequent post I will speak about the “Winepress of God’s Wrath” which awaits those who are marked by the beast.
