Do You Know the New Song “Jesus Only is Worthy”?

“And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;” ~ Revelation 5:9

The expression “a new song” refers to the new heart and desires that God performs in us when Jesus saves the soul. It is no longer the “old song” of complaining and of not being satisfied. The world and all the riches and pleasures it has to offer can NEVER satisfy the soul! Only by being made spiritually whole, by being forgiven of and delivered from all sin, can we really have a new song to sing in true worship to the Lord.

  • “Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright. Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise. For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.” ~ Psalms 33:1-4
  • “I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.” ~ Psalms 40:1-3

The “new song” is also “new” because it is only the Lord who authors it! Only Jesus Christ has the ability to open the seals to the word of God. He himself is the “revelation.” He is the only one who has done marvelous things. No man, prophet or other angel is worthy of this honor!

“O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory. The LORD hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen. He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. Sing unto the LORD with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.” ~ Psalms 98:1-5

“Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints. Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King. Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp. For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation. Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds. Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand; To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people; To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD.” ~ Psalms 149

The rest of Revelation 5:9 reads “…for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation”

Because Jesus was the only sacrifice worthy to bare our sins and save our souls, he is also the only one worthy to bring the full meaning and intention of God’s Word for our souls. Jesus is the Word of God that was made flesh by living the fullness of God’s word on earth.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” ~ John 1:1-4 & 14

Jesus is worthy because he only spoke according to God’s will:

“Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.” ~ John 14:10-11

Therefore he is not only worthy, he is the official source of all truth. God the Father has ordained for all mankind to understand the will of God through Jesus Christ.

And when Jesus saves us, we are only adopted into the one family of God. Which is why Revelation 5:9 states we are redeemed “out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation.” When we are really saved we are members of only God’s church! We are not members of some religious sect or other religious affiliation. We need to come out to only be part of the one family of God. Then we will worship God in the unity of the Spirit and truth with all the true saints, past and present. There are no divisions where all are truly worshiping the one Lamb who is the “King of kings and Lord of lords!” ~ 1 Timothy 6:14-16 & Revelation 17:14 & Revelation 19:11-16
