“And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.” ~ Revelation 5:10
As already spoken in Revelation 1:6, Jesus has transformed his true believers into kings and priests. We are able to reign on earth as kings over the power of sin and the devil. We do NOT have to yield to sin, we are free from it!
“For if by one man’s offense death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.” ~ Romans 5:17
This is not a reign where we are not accountable for continuing in sin. No! This is a reign where we have power to stop sinning because Jesus has not only forgiven us, he has also freed us from sin reigning over us.
“Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” ~ Romans 6:12-14
This is not a reign for a future millennial time. No! The scripture shows us that this reign started when the gospel was first preached. It is a “now” reign, not a future one.
“Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned as kings without us: and I would to God ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.” ~ 1 Corinthians 4:8
This reign started with the beginning of the gospel, and has continued until today, and will continue forever!
“But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.” ~ Daniel 7:18
We reign over sin because we are willing to carry our cross and suffer with him. Because we are willing to suffer, he supplies all the grace we need to be true and faithful.
“If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us” ~ 2 Timothy 2:12
This is a key part of our service! To be willing to sacrifice self for his purpose. True worship is from this type of heart – a heart of true love and self-sacrifice. This is why we are described as kings and priests.
The Old Testament priests performed the office of leading worship and the work needed related to the worship. So today we are to be priests to offer up spiritual sacrifices (ourselves, our lives, our praise, our thanksgiving) to the glory of God, by the leadership and example of Jesus Christ.
“Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.” ~ 1 Peter 2:5
Today, are you a spiritual king and priest? Are you reigning over sin? Have you fully given all the love of your heart and life to Jesus Christ?
