“And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.” ~ Revelation 16:3

When you know you are guilty of sin, you should also know and be aware that your soul is spiritually dead. That is part of what pouring out the vials of God’s wrath are for: to make you keenly aware by feeling the pain of your spiritual condition, so you can repent and get right with God.

You will recall from a previous post that the sea represents many people of many countries, that spiritually die when influenced by the spirit of hypocrisy. Especially when they are under the influence of fallen Christianity that is no longer faithful to Jesus.

“ඔහු මට මෙසේ කීවේය. ජලය which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.” ~ Revelation 17:15

The harlot of Revelation 17 represents the hypocrisy of what claims to be Christian. The churches that claim to be the wife of Christ, but they are spiritually unfaithful to obey Jesus and his Word. And they become guilty of putting down and persecuting true Christians.

So it begins to become clear that a judgement of blood against waters is actually against many people. Because the harlot is sitting upon the people and controlling them.

Earlier, in Revelation, (and in history) not everyone died under this influence of hypocrisy. Some still survived. This was revealed in Revelation chapter 8 and verse 8, showing that in the third and fourth centuries the church leadership became more political minded than spiritual. They compromised the gospel for worldly gain and power, and eventually formed the Roman Catholic Church.

“And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.” ~ Revelation 8:8-9

The great mountain on fire (which was supposed to be the church) was quenched in the sea of people politics and caused many that were at one time spiritual, to die by sin re-entering their lives. This historical middle-age condition that happened around God’s people would continue to “fester” until it fully matured into a fully corrupted organization. This part of history was identified earlier in Revelation as the Pergamos church age. A time when Satan fully established a seat of hypocrisy authority through the formation of the Roman Catholic Church.

And so a third part of the sea also became blood guilty, because the blood of Christ that once saved them, now was showing them guilty. Because they were returning to their sins even though claiming to be Christian. But not everyone became blood guilty, because not everyone in the sea had had their chance to hear the gospel clearly. Consequently, the whole sea was not turned into blood, because not everyone was yet guilty of rejecting Christ and persecuting God’s true people.

But in Revelation 16 we see by the second “vial angel”: that everyone in the sea of people has now been affected.

“And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.” ~ Revelation 16:3

No one is spared because everyone is being made aware of the blood-guiltiness they have in their soul. Unless Jesus Christ delivers us from our sins, we are blood-guilty!

And so next we see that this blood-guiltiness has also impacted those that go out and spread a form of gospel message, but manipulate it for their own advantage. They are blood guilty, because in using the gospel for advantage, they only give enough gospel to provide barely enough spiritual food to keep the people looking to them for help. This produces a spiritual famine in the soul, and many people spiritually die. And the people become bitter because of the abuse by a corrupted ministry.

This spiritual condition was identified earlier in Revelation in the opening of the third seal when the Catholic Church ministry produced a spiritual famine by chaining the Bible to the pulpit and keeping the Word in a language that the people could not understand. Consequently the ministry of the Catholic Church became blood guilty by spreading a famine across the land. And since then, many other ministers of different churches have done the same thing.

So now in the third vial of God’s wrath, we see this ministry typified as a river that is supposed to spread the living waters over the land. But because of their abuse of the gospel and making people bitter, they are being judged as “blood-guilty”. In a number of places in the scripture we are instructed that those who have Christ, are like a river and a fountain that spreads the living waters of Christ to many others. But here in Revelation 16 we are shown what happens when those same rivers and fountains become corrupted!

“And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.” ~ Revelation 16:4

river turned to blood

Back in Revelation 8 the third trumpet messenger (angel) exposed how that a fallen ministry can turn people bitter in their soul by a message that they spread over the people on Earth.

“And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.” ~ Revelation 8:10-11

Again, in Revelation 8 it was a partial effect so many men spiritually died, but not all. But in Revelation chapter 16, this vial shows a complete corruption. They all have become blood-guilty!

Remember: the pouring out of the vials in Revelation chapter 16 is a completion of the judgments of God on all hypocrisy and sin.

What is being shown here is that today, in the final days, everyone will spiritually die outside of the remnant that will be faithful and obedient to the call for holiness. All others are dying because they are නැහැ answering the call to come out of unfaithful “Christianity” and religion.

“And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” ~ Revelation 18:4

So in Revelation the 8th chapter, first the trumpet angels warned the people, because few things happen in life without warning. And now in Revelation the 16th chapter, the vial angels are executing complete and final gospel judgments upon unfaithful hypocrisy. Why? Because Jesus doesn’t accept unfaithfulness, and he especially holds people accountable when they know better.

If your spouse every day said “I gave into the temptation to have sex with someone else, but will you forgive me as I keep doing this every day? Because I really still love you” would you believe them? No! Because they keep doing it.

So why should we expect Jesus to believe us when we say almost every day “I gave into Satan’s temptations again in sinful things (just like I do daily), but I still love you Jesus.”

Jesus is not a pushover who allows people to crucify him afresh every day.

“For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.” ~ Hebrews 6:4-6

Waters turned to blood is symbolic of the wrath of God on a people who refuse to respond to the Lord’s call. Even in the Old Testament this has symbolically happened.

“Thus saith the Lord, In this thou shalt know that I am the Lord: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood. And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall stink; and the Egyptians shall lothe to drink of the water of the river.” ~ Exodus 7:17-18

You might find fault with this message of judgement, but if you read further in Revelation chapter 16, it clearly states that Jesus has every right to judge this way.

“And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus. For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.” ~ Revelation 16:5-6

You see people who will not be faithful to obey Christ, will also find fault with those who chose to be faithful: just as an unfaithful companion will find fault with a faithful companion. And often, throughout history, it is unfaithful Christianity that has persecuted and killed faithful Christians.

Therefore the scripture above states:

“For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.”

The waters and fountains were turned to blood because many have been guilty of killing the testimony of the righteous by: gossip, false accusations, and physically killing them.

And additionally, they are guilty of the blood of many other souls by deceiving them and not giving them the full gospel truth! Spiritual wolf ministers will not declare the full gospel to the souls they preach to. This the Apostle Paul severely warned us against.

“Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.” ~ Acts 20:26-31

Next in Revelation chapter 16 the judgement message against the waters is double justified by a voice out of the altar of sacrifice.

“And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.” ~ Revelation 16:7

So who is this voice coming out of the altar of sacrifice? Under the altar of sacrifice are the ashes of those who were sacrificed. We were already shown who they are back in the sixth chapter of Revelation.

“And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were , should be fulfilled. ~ Revelation 6:9-11

So now, in the pouring out of the vials of God’s judgement wrath, God is answering the prayer of every holy and faithful person who has ever been persecuted by fake hypocritical Christians. God is “avenging their blood” upon the blood-guilty – for vengeance belongs to the Lord. Just because a true Christian will not take revenge against you for your persecution, do not reason within yourself that you will not be judged. Because God will take vengeance!

“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” ~ Romans 12:19

So who are we? Part of the persecuted faithful, or part of the unfaithful hypocrites?

Are we willing to heed the warning and the wrath by answering the call of Jesus Christ to repentance and to true faithfulness to his full gospel?

Note: this diagram below shows where the second and third vial messages are within the full Revelation message. These “vials of God’s wrath” messages complete the purpose of God to destroy the influence of hypocrisy.
