~ Wahyu 4:9-11
A true ministry will lead others in whole-hearted, consecrated service and worship. The effect will be that those who truly follow will willingly “cast their crown”, or completely from the heart give everything they have and are, to glorify Almighty God! Why? Because they believe and want nothing less than to fulfill God’s will. That is how they worship and live, and that is why they cry from the depths of their heart: “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”
Do you believe that the only purpose you have in life is to fulfill God’s pleasure in you? Or are you still in control of your life, believing you have a right to a crown of authority to make decisions as you would like?
So in the context of this scripture and the Bible, what is a crown? It represents an “authoritative” reward for a position you have obtained. Meaning, you have authority and power given to you which is represented by a crown that is also recognized by others. The Apostle Paul described it this way:
“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” ~ 2 Timothy 4:6-8
The Apostle Peter also referred to this final crown.
“And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.” ~ 1 Peter 5:4
But there is a crown of authority we can wear while still on earth. It represents the individuals that we have conquered for the Lord. By the love of God and His power to deliver from sin, we can help others to find full salvation from sin!
- “For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? For ye are our glory and joy.” ~ 1 Thessalonians 2:19-20
- “Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.” ~ Philippians 4:1
Yes, those who truly win souls to Christ have a special authority in the form of a spiritual crown! But don’t be so quick to want this yourself. Understand the deeper devotion and sacrificial love that this will take. Are you willing? Jesus was. Consider what his crown looked like while on earth.
“Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him. And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe, And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands. Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him. Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!” ~ John 19:1-5
Jesus wore a crown of thorns for you and me! Truly we were his “crown” that he wore of us. We were his crown of shame, yet he was willing because he loved us. The Apostle Paul described those he won for Christ as his “crown and joy”, yet he was no doubt alluding to the shame and reproach he also bore for their sakes.
Are we willing to wear a crown of shame, suffering and sacrificial love for Christ and the souls he came to reach? Is there a crown of righteousness awaiting us? Are we proud of the crown that we have born like that? Are we willing to cast such a hard earned crown before the throne of God stating that he is worthy of that and much more?
What kind of crown are you wearing? Is it “living for yourself” or is it “totally a sacrifice for His glory”? Will you cast your crown before His throne? Do you really believe that God is worthy?
