“…and the fourth beast (living creature) was like a flying eagle.” ~ Revelation 4:7

Finally, let us consider the one with the face of a flying eagle. What special spiritual characteristics does this living creature teach us concerning a true ministry?

“Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” ~ Isaiah 40:28-31

A true ministry is able to rise above the temptations and trials of this life by having the patience to “watch and pray” and wait upon the Almighty to bring the answer to the difficulties. Eagles don’t have to labor by flapping their wings to rise above a storm. They simply open up their wings, and they start to rise above it all. Eagles have been spotted soaring above hurricanes.

In Ezekiel, the Almighty is shown flying on top of these living creatures. They are his vehicle of transport in the earth. Spiritually showing they have a responsibility to do the bidding of the Almighty under the direction of his Holy Spirit (wind).

“And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind.” ~ Psalms 17:10

And an even more fascinating spiritual characteristic of these living creatures is further brought out to us in the prophet Ezekiel’s description of them:

“Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward.” ~ Ezekiel 1:9

It is impossible for an eagle to be joined to another eagle by the wings, and still fly, unless they both wait on the wind, or the Spirit of God, to move them. If they flap their wings to try to fly themselves, they will tear one another apart! This characteristic is also shown in the Old Testament tabernacle where the Cherubs (representing these living creatures) overlooked the mercy seat on the Ark. Their wings always touched one to another. May God help the true ministry to take heed to this characteristic today! May they wait on one another as they wait on the Lord. May they stay together and not tear one another apart!

Do you have a true minister who knows how to wait upon the Lord to rise above the temptations and trials of this life? Have you learned how to do the same?
